What is the course about?

The course covers facts and information about tinnitus and looks at theories about how tinnitus becomes a problem, leading on to techniques and strategies you can use to alleviate the tinnitus-related distress.

The class is taught live on Zoom.
To access the live class you will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook). Please note a tablet or smart phone is not suitable for this class. The screen size is too small. It will limit your ability to lipread and participate fully in class.

What will we cover?

Understanding tinnitus, how the ear works, the process of habituation, managing negative thoughts and emotions, stress management, relaxation techniques, managing sleep problems, using sounds to help alleviate tinnitus, where to go for specialist help.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Understand what tinnitus is and what can make it worse
• Use a range of techniques and strategies to help manage tinnitus
• Access self-help resources and specialist help.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No previous knowledge or training in the subject is needed.
You will need to be able to read sentences and follow verbal instructions.

This course will be taught in spoken English and not in sign language.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

In the session there will be group work, pair work, practical work, lecture, demonstration and discussion.

We aim to make all our teaching accessible for students with an acquired hearing loss, whether it is an online course or face to face.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no materials or extra costs. You may find it helpful to bring a pen and notebook to the session.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
