Please note the Thursday classes are not every Thursday, but approximately every third week.

- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably google chrome). Your device will need a microphone, and preferably a camera.

What will we cover?

Some of these topics will be covered on this Introductory course
- Geometry and properties of shapes
- Algebra (linear and quadradic)
- Vectors; solving problems using vectors
- Introduction to Trigonometry.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

identify the course content involved in an intense Maths GCSE
identify the commitment needed to complete the Maths GCSE successfully
identify the level of mathematical skill needed to succeed in Maths GCSE
recognise and state properties of shapes
state and use some formulae to find out more about given shapes and solids
use algebraic rules to solve equations, both linear and quadratic.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This introductory course is at level 2. You need to be working at that level and score well on an initial pre-course assessment before being accepted onto this course . You will also need to be able to show that you have the commitment to attend every week and to work outside the classroom as required to cover the work.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment. The tutor will help you discover rules and features of maths. You will work on your own and with other students. You will learn in a step by step manner so you can complete challenging tasks in enjoyable and relaxing ways. Your tutor will also work with you individually so you know how to improve. You will need to do work outside the classroom and use Google Classroom to help you.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The most important thing to bring is your dedication, enthusiasm and commitment! You need to bring a lined A4 writing pad, pen and a folder for assignments/handouts. You will need to buy a textbook and an appropriate calculator. Your tutor will give you details of these in the first class. Some basic Maths equipment will be needed e.g. a ruler, a protractor, compasses and pencils. Access to a computer is required as Google Classroom will be used on the course. If you are on a low income you may be able to apply to the Bursary Fund for help with the costs of the course (e.g. fares, books, materials).

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

After successfully completing the Higher Introductory course you can enrol on the full GCSE Higher maths course, AC202. If not ready for this you may be offered a place on one of our GCSE Foundation courses, or our Get Ready for GCSE which will help you to succeed in getting onto the full GCSE the following year
