What is the course about?
This class will start with some small and gentle movements to ease tension and stress so you can move more easily and efficiently. These movements gradually become larger and more strength-based. Throughout the class, you will explore how to develop more inner and outer strength, more groundness and body awareness and attend to your breathing and posture more mindfully. At the end of the class, there will be time for a short rest for you to relax, restore and rejuvenate.
This course will be delivered online.To fully participate in this online class you will need:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably google chrome). Your device will need a
microphone, and preferably a camera.
What will we cover?
We will cover some of the principles of the Pilates and Feldenkrais methods, awareness, tension, core stability, benefits of rests and some basic anatomy.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Develop more postural and body awareness
-Practise mindful movements to ease tension and stress
- Increase inner and outer strength
-Select some mindful movements for your daily practice.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Everyone is welcome, no previous knowledge or experience is needed. However, you should be able to get down on the floor and up again independently. If you have a disability or health concern, please contact the Health and Lifestyle department in advance. You should be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
If you have any health concerns, or have been affected by any of the conditions listed below, please consult with your health practitioner whether it is appropriate for you to take part in an exercise or movement workshop, and show a referral letter from them to your tutor. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations. Handouts will be provided.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
This course is experiential and taught at a slower pace based on demonstrations and verbally guided instructions. The movements are performed mindfully lying on the mat and some in standing. Occasionally we may include some small equipment like a soft ball, small towel or foam roller. The tutor may give some short presentations on relevant topics, and suggestions for practice after the class will be provided.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
No other costs. Wear comfortable and loose clothing.

Charoltte is a movement and mindfulness teacher with over 12 years of experience. She says 'Over 25 years I've explored different movement disciplines and therapies. Throughout the years, one particular method stood out from all the others, the Feldenkrais Method - a way of healing and learning through movement. It resonated with my aspirations for awareness, healing, learning and resilience. The people I teach are from all walks of life. I offer a variety of classes e.g Feldenkrais, Mindful Pilates and Pilates Bones & Balance and workshops in different settings from the NHS, adult education, the local community and corporate wellness. I also offer individual movement lessons and Feldenkrais hands-on Functional Integration. To maintain my own wellbeing, on-going learning and curiosity, I have a regular movement and mindfulness practice. I also swim and walk as well as receiving mentoring in the Feldenkrais method and Mindfulness.' Qualifications: Feldenkrais Practitioner, Pilates Foundation teacher, Postural Stability Instructor and Mindfulness for Stress and Health (Breathworks). BA Social Anthropology and Economics.
