What is the course about?
This workshop will take place at Bushy Park for the red and fallow deer that reside there. It is the rutting season, and the park will hopefully be looking very autumnal by then. The workshop will be an opportunity to make images of landscapes, flora and fauna in the company of an experienced wildlife, landscape and environmental photographer. This will be a chance to develop your photography skills and think about what make an interesting photograph that tells a story.
The meeting place for this is by the seating near the toilets at Hampton Court Station. There is a train that arrives from London at 10.12am so we shall meet there then. Please be on time, the tutor can only wait max 15 mins for latecomers, please let Visual Arts know if you are running late.
The tutor will have your phone numbers in case they need to get in touch in an emergency.
What will we cover?
- techniques and tips on how to take interesting images including framing, panning, positioning, blur, focusing, use of natural light, metering, depth of field and camera settings.
- how to develop a project or single image that tells a story.
- conceptual ideas for developing your own photography in the areas of nature, landscape and environment.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- identify appropriate equipment and how to use it to photograph your chosen subjects
- use photographic techniques including focus, metering, use of natural lighting and weather, styles such as fill frame, detail and wide angle shots
- have increased confidence in photographing your subject and how best to photograph them in varying conditions
- use storytelling techniques to help you decide on the best shot for a project or single shot.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is for beginners and those wishing to refresh and hone their photographic skills.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The class will be taught in the field, and there will be group discussions and opportunities for one-to-ones for those that require them during the session. You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Bring your camera (ideally with manual controls) a tripod if you have one, batteries plus spare ones as their will be no opportunity to charge them during the session.
You will need to bring a drink and snacks if you require them and a mask, although the course itself will take place in the open air. You may need waterproof clothing and a plastic bag to keep your camera dry.
