What is the course about?
This course will look some of the depictions of London, its inhabitants & some of the artists who chose to use the city as their inspiration. The perception of London sometimes outweighs the reality of the city, so we’ll be looking at how & why artists chose to paint London as they did, and how it effects viewers & Londoners and how the world views the city & its inhabitants.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
London - the city as depicted over the years - for good and for bad, in its glory and it’s shame.
Londoners - those Londoners who have contributed to the capital, or in some cases not!
London artists - the artists & art movements who have been so key to the perception of our city.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Identify some of the London based art movements and artists.
Recognise some of the most renown depictions of London & it’s population.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Accessible to all levels - no particular skills required. An interest in art & London.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Online. Comprehensive handouts will be provided. No formal homework required.
