How to pick the right yoga class

Keen to take up yoga but not sure where to start? Read on for tips on how to choose the right yoga class…

Yoga has become increasingly popular in recent years for Londoners looking to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing. In fact, recent research suggests around 460,000 people in the UK attend some form of yoga class each week*.  Here at City Lit we run a number of yoga classes across the year, suitable for all ages and ability levels.

Yoga offers innumerable health benefits, from helping stimulate the mind to releasing tension, improving body posture and increasing flexibility. For these reasons and more, it’s little wonder this rewarding activity has experienced a surge in popularity in the UK over the last few decades.

However, for many people opting to take up this invigorating and relaxing form of exercise for the very first time, it can be a little confusing to navigate the many different forms of yoga and find the right yoga class to match your ability. Naturally, some yoga styles are more demanding than others, so make sure you take the time to research the individual demands of each yoga course find the right course and yoga style. You will be able to practise at home after a few classes on each level course. Beginners yoga classes

Our beginners yoga classes allow those unfamiliar with yoga to become comfortable with the basics of breathing, movement and posture. We recommend taking a beginners’ course if you have had no previous exposure to yoga, regardless of your age or current physical ability. Gentle yoga is the ideal introductory course for anyone keen to try yoga for the very first time and is looking for an even gentler introduction, or anyone who may not consider themselves to be at peak fitness.

Mixed level yoga classes

This level is not suitable for complete beginners, but open to yoga enthusiasts with previous experience. These courses can vary in difficulty; it depends on the level of each group, but all students with experience will be catered to. You will be given modifications as necessary to enable you learn yoga in an enjoyable way. You will learn beginners’ postures in more detail and add more advanced ones to your repertoire, thus deepening your yoga experience.

Intermediate yoga

This level can be suitable for yoga practitioners with at least 2 years experience of attending mixed levels classes. Talk to your current tutor if you are not sure that you are ready for this level.
