What is the course about?
This course aims to further improve your elementary Polish in order to get by in everyday situations.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
Daily routine, likes and dislikes, jobs, holidays, Polish traditions.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- talk about past events using perfect/ imperfect verbs
- to take part in general conversations (daily routine, likes and dislikes, jobs, fee time, holidays)
- talk about your preferences
- offer and ask for help
- talk about holidays and different Polish traditions.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You should have completed Polish beginners or have an equivalent level. For further details of the specific foreign
language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart at the start of the languages
section of our course guide, or at http://www.citylit.ac.uk/courses/Languages/74. You will also need to be able to
respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of number for
daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, etc).
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Materials are provided by tutor. The tutor willl discuss using extracts from Hurra!!! Po polsku 1 Podrecznik studenta Nowa Edycja ISBN 978-83-60229-38-5 and tutor's own materials.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
If there is enough demand we will open: Polish 2: module 2 in January.
Barbara, a lecturer in Polish, holds an MA in opera studies and a teaching certificate in Polish pedagogy. A lover of music and acting, Barbara uses those tools during the lessons to make the process of learning easier and more fun. Barbara is a native Polish speaker with 10 years of experience and teaches all levels of proficiency. She has lectured at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, King's College London, and Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College.
