What is the course about?

Resilience is an increasingly important area in our busy world, for both life and work. Psychological research offers clues about what makes us resilient and how we can strengthen it (and when we can’t). This short introduction gives psychological insight and understanding as well as practical ways of developing resilience in our lives.

What will we cover?

Introduction to:
• What is Resilience – definitions and types
• Psychological theory and components of resilience
• Resilience in the workplace and our careers
• What helps us to be more resilient?

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Understand what resilience is and what it isn’t.
• Recognise insights from psychological theory on resilience
• Explain several ways in which we can be more resilient in our work and careers.
• Identify some personal learning to apply or explore further.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is an introduction to psychological perspectives on Resilience. It assumes no prior Knowledge but an interest in psychology and its applications.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Presentation/mini-lectures, handouts, examples and class discussion. This is a 1 day course, no homework is set, but signposts to further reading will be given, if of interest.
