What is the course about?

This course follows from and expands on Sanskrit Level 1 at City Lit. (See Stories of Rama Book 1 & 2 to know what has been covered).

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Thorough revision of what was learned in Level 1 – especially the Devanagari script, the present, imperfect
and future tense, nominal declensions, verb conjugations in the present system, gerunds, pronouns, and introduction to sandhi - conditional phonological changes at word boundaries in Sanskrit.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Construct and read intermediate level sentences in the present, past and future tense; construct and read sentences using participles in place of verbs; identify at least 2 types of Sanskrit compounds; gerunds, gerundives.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course presumes language skill imparted at Level 1 at City Lit, or equivalent competency.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Classroom contact with interactions in both Sanskrit and English. To fully benefit from the course, you should be
prepared to commit at least 3-4 hours to homework. Textbooks will be the starter level of the Sansrkit IGCSE course. Links will be provided.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You can enrol for module 2, in which you will expand your vocabulary dramatically, learn complex grammatical
forms, the past and future tense, the passive voice, and be able to read prose passages appropriate to this level.
