What is the course about?

Find out whether singing jazz is for you. This course offers an introduction to jazz singing - phrasing, feel, vocal qualities, style, and following a jazz pianist.

What will we cover?

-Breath control and vocal technique
-Jazz vocal qualities and style
-Standard repertoire
-The opportunity to work with piano accompaniment.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Have improved your vocal technique
- Enhance your understanding of jazz singing and repertoire
- Be able to sing a jazz standard (song) with confidence.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have experience of singing and musical activity, not necessarily of jazz.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Teaching is student centred and experiential. We will sing as a group and individually. The tutor will demonstrate and direct you. Music materials will be supplied. Constructive criticism will be given relative to your efforts.
