Communicating via text, Twitter, Instagram, blogs and vlogs is now as essential as emailing, phoning and speaking face-to-face. This course will help you develop the type of English you need, spoken and written, for these different media as well as help you with your general English. You will learn how to set up and use Twitter and Instagram accounts and you will practise how to write and speak directly and to the point so you get your message across with few words but in a polite manner. You will learn about the best ways to express yourself, developing your vocabulary and ways of emphasising your speech and writing. By doing this you will learn about parts of speech (verbs, nouns, etc.) and will be apply your skills and knowledge to other types of communication. You will also work on longer communications via blogs and vlogs so you will work on planning and drafting what you want to write or say, organising your communication and knowing how to begin and end.

What is the course about?

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

•communicate well on social media including Twitter, Instagram, blogging and vlogging, and use these skills to develop your English in general.
• set up Twitter and Instagram accounts
• write and speak directly so you get your message across with few words but in a polite manner
• use different means of avoiding repetition but also use repetition when necessary
•express yourself in different ways so your reader or listener pays attention to you
• use a range of vocabulary and add emphasis in your speech and writing.
• apply skills and knowledge from Tweets and Instagram to other types of communication.
• plan and draft longer communications such as blogs and vlogs to work on what you want to write or say
• organise and structure your longer communication on blogs and vlogs, give opinions and begin and end them effectively.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for people whose level of English is Entry 3-Level 1. You will be interested in film and social media but you do not need to know a lot about either.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment. The tutor will help you discover rules and features of English. You will work on your own and with other students. You will learn in a step by step manner so you can complete challenging tasks in enjoyable and relaxing ways. Your tutor will also work with you individually so you know how to improve. You will need to do work outside the classroom and use Google Classroom to help you.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a file to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and a code for Google classroom so you can communicate with classmates and access materials, videos etc. online.
