This intensive Spanish course is suitable if you already speak a romance language like Italian, French, Portuguese or Romanian, or if you want to learn at a much faster pace. Suitable for elementary students. Modules 1, 2 and 3 of 'Spanish Rápidamente' cover the course content of 'Spanish 2 lower' and 'Spanish 2 upper'. Further improve your Spanish. The emphasis is on listening, speaking and acquiring greater understanding of Spanish grammar. You should have completed "Spanish 2 rápidamente: module 2" or equivalent. Based on Aula Internacional 2 (Nueva Edición) (Difusión Publishers).

What is the course about?

To enable students to communicate more fully and fluently in a wider range of everyday situations and conversations. The course will also give insight into cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Asking and giving advice, describing how you feel, illness and remedies, describing in the past, comparing past and present, describing experiences in the past, celebrations in Spain and Latin America.
Grammar: uses of ser/estar, imperfect, contrast simple past/imperfect.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Describe how you feel
- Give advice, orders and instructions
- Tell an anecdote with increased fluency
- Contrast past and present.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is intended for students who have completed stage 2 upper: module 2 or have an equivalent knowledge of the language.

It is also essential that you have some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation. It would be helpful if you had knowledge of more intermediate grammar terminology such as: prepositions, direct and indirect pronouns, adjectives, and adverbs.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

LBS08 or LBS22 Spanish 2: revision course in summer, Spanish GCSE or Spanish 3 lower: module 1 in September. Please enrol early to avoid disappointment.

Amaia Ibargüen

Amaia is a Spanish teacher from the Basque country in Spain. She grew up in Mondragón and studied in San Sebastián and Bilbao where she completed a teaching degree at university. She has always been interested in teaching and, as well as her work in adult education, she has experience teaching at universities and companies. Amaia has Qualified Teacher Status in England and has taught Spanish at all levels. She has a keen interest in exploring those areas of the language that her students find difficult. She takes great pleasure in seeing how her students progress in the language, in their motivation and dedication, and in the dialogue that takes place among adults in the context of the classroom.
