What is the course about?

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.
What will we cover?
Topics: holidays, personal experiences, free time, advice and instructions, past habits, plans for the future.
Grammar: simple past, present perfect and imperfect tenses, present continuous tense, comparatives, object pronouns, the imperative and future tense.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- make comparisons
- speak about your experiences
- say what you have and haven’t done
- describe events in the past
- say where you went on holiday last year, what you did and when
- say what you used to do and what people were like in the past
- give advice
- talk about the future.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Suitable if you have completed Spanish 1 rápidamente, Spanish 2 lower, Spanish 1: fast track year 1 or have an equivalent knowledge of the language (two years’ study). This is a revision course so students will revise and consolidate the main points of elementary Spanish.
You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.
For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart at the start of the languages section of our course guide or at http://www.citylit.ac.uk/self-assess-your-level.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The classes are based on the communicative approach. The emphasis is put on speaking and listening. There will be pair and group work as well as role plays and games. Audio-visual techniques will be included whenever convenient. Grammar will be taught as it appears in the context of these topics.
Some homework is normally expected. Please note students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
All material will be provided by the tutor.

Roser became interested in languages in Barcelona - Spain, where she studied French and English with inspiring, caring and passionate teachers. She loves teaching since she was very young and before moving to London, she had been teaching adults from all different backgrounds and levels at University settings both as a lecturer and as a teacher trainer. She holds a PhD in Discourse Analysis and has published several papers and books related to Spanish linking words and pedagogical grammar. She loves the sound (and power!) of words, what we do with them; something that has taken her to deeply explore Psychology and Hypnosis. Roser has been teaching part-time at City Lit for more than 10 years, and she loves the enthusiasm and motivation of students, always eager to learn and discover new aspects of Spanish speaking cultures.
