Stammering Pride and Prejudice: 2016 conference

On 3 November 21016, City Lit welcomed over 100 delegates to ‘Stammering Pride and Prejudice’, a one-day conference organised by City Lit and intandem. Focusing on the question ‘To what extent does speech and language therapy unwittingly perpetuate public and self-stigma?, the event brought together a range of leading voices engaging directly with the disability activist movement and the principles of the social model of disability in the UK and US.  Speakers, as well as delegates, were a mixture of people who stammer and speech and language therapists and researchers.

The keynote speaker was Michael Boyle, Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Montclair State University in New Jersey, U.S.
