What is the course about?
You will learn a sequence of movements from Yang family-style long-form T'ai Chi Chuan (TCC) syllabus including Push Hands, Da Lu, application and Chi Kung, exercises that will enable you to calm and relax your body-mind. Improve, co-ordinate and integrate your whole body power and intent for health well-being and application. As an intermediate course some background in Yang style TCC is expected, though the focus will be on teaching to the individual so varying levels can be positively accommodated and some time will be spent on form correction and improvement.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.

- Warm up exercises
- Meditation and TCC principles.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Adequately perform movements from the T'ai Chi Yang long form, Push Hands and Da Lu practice
- Demonstrate using solo and partner testing of posture and application to improve health, well-being and practice
- Perform loosening-up, stretching and some Chi Kung movements
- Be able to improve personal practice health and well-being by understanding and utilising TCC principles and practice.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Suitable for those with some TCC experience, especially of Yang-style long form. Previous students of shorter forms will also benefit from improved understanding of the original authentic and much more comprehensive practice from which their ’shorter’ forms were abstracted and derived. You will need to be able to read and write short sentences, follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group.
If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed below, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake an exercise programme and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor. If you have not checked, or if it is not suitable, please do not participate in an exercise or movement class.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Demonstrations, verbal direction and explanation, physical correction, group and individual practice.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You should wear loose comfortable clothing. Certain books and video/DVD will be recommended.

Richard Chipping has been teaching Yang family style Tai Chi Chuan since 1981. Teaching for Master Chu King Hung, the third adopted son and disciple of Master Yang Sau Chung (eldest son of Yang Cheng Fu) from ‘81-‘96. Richard has also studied for shorter periods of time with Master Yang’s other two disciples, Ip Tai Tak and Chu Gin Soon. Richard also teaches and practices Baguazhang (Cheng and Yin lineages). He is CEO and senior trainer for a charity, the London Centre for Personal Safety (LCPS) providing best practice evidence based personal safety and self defence training mainly to the vulnerable, crime victims and survivor groups. He introduced the IMPACT self-defence full-force approach using mixed gender training teams with suited instructors and was the first such instructor in the UK. Richard’s been an advisor to local and national governments, the Home Office and Metropolitan Police Service on public safety, public protection, homicide and sexual violence; Chaired the Met’s Sapphire Sexual Violence IAG for five years, contributing for example to two National Rape reviews and the ACPO Guidance on Investigating Serious Sexual Offences.
