What is the course about?
Understanding how to use the manual settings of your DSLR cameras is key to shooting successful video. Professional film makers check a specific set of settings every time they shoot. This short workshop session teaches you that checklist and helps ensure the quality of your footage.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is a beginners’ course.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught using a range of techniques including short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Film and Animation.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Please bring your camera (if you have one) to the classes and you may wish to bring a notebook and pen. The City Lit has a range of Digital SLR cameras, lights and and tripods, which you are available for use during the class. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note: PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.).

David Kline is a filmmaker with experience as a scriptwriter, producer, director and editor. He started in film work via a fortuitous, personal link to the US actor, writer, director and producer Laurence Fishburne. David assisted Mr Fishburne in the development of a screen adaptation of a well-known novella (Paulo Coelho's 'The Alchemist') for Warner Brothers. David has since worked as a script reader and reporter for several UK film agencies including Script Factory, Scottish Screen and Northern Ireland Screen. He has written numerous short film scripts and produced several, including 'On the Edge' which won Best Drama (Diamond Award) at the European Independent Film Awards 2018 and 'Game Over' a co-write with Director Adam Jenkins featuring Blake Harrison, Gemma Whelan and Naomi Battrick, which was officially selected for the LA Shorts International Film Festival 2018 and London Short Film Festival 2019. David has also written several spec full length, feature film screenplays in a range of genres from horror to thriller to family drama. He is an experienced and qualified teacher and trainer.
