What is the course about?

This hands-on JavaScript course provides an introduction to the features provided by JavaScript. You will get the skills needed to use JavaScript in web applications and create rich client websites.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Variables and variable scope
Data types and Objects: String, Number, Boolean, Array and Object
Operators
Working with the console
Conditional structures: if, else
Loops: while, for
Functions: creating and using
Form validation
Understanding the DOM: accessing, changing, creating
Manipulating page content
Manipulating CSS properties and values.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

You will understand the different concepts involved when developing websites using JavaScript. This course will create a solid base for creating client websites.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Understanding of HTML/CSS or any other programming language.
You should have good general computing skills. You should be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor in English.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is entirely practical. Each student will have a computer where they will be able to test and develop during the course.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Raymond Snare has enjoyed a very successful career in the computer industry for many years. During this time his duties have included (by not limited to) software testing, software development and technical support. Several years ago, he changed careers to concentrate his time on teaching and course development. During this period, he has held courses in many different environments and at several different levels, including professional, adult education and higher education (college /university). His areas of expertise at the City Lit include JavaScript/jQuery Java Python. Over the last few years, he has developed several websites and apps. App development targets the Android platform.
