What is the course about?

This course will be taught as far as possible through the medium of Welsh. Suitable for experienced learners who want to continue to improve fluency and obtain an introduction to the literary language. We will also discuss news items and current affairs of Welsh interest, cover grammar work and read a Welsh language novel in class.

This is a live online course. You will need:

We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Express your opinion about news items

- understand the news more confidently

- discuss a novel in Welsh.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The core subject matter of the classes is equally suitable for those who have been learning Welsh at level 4 as for level 5 students.

For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart, using the link at the top of this page. You can also find the chart at the start of the languages section in our course guide. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc). It is essential that you have knowledge of more complex grammar terminology.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Material used in the course will be largely provided by the tutor and include grammar work from Cwrs Uwch and Cwrs Meistroli Ceredigion as well as news items and current affairs from BBC Cymru Fyw.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
