What is the course about?

This course is practical and experiential and will use a variety of creative therapies to support the process of self-
discovery, creativity and self-expression.
We all have a variety of masks that we wear daily. Many of these can be helpful, provide us with protection when we
most need it or help us navigate through challenging situations.

In some situations it is unwise to remove our masks, however if parts of them are removed it can enable us to be
more honest, open and confident in our relationships.

You will have an opportunity to create a mask. The art-making process allows you to access emotions and feelings
that you may have not been able to reach through other means. We all have a creative side so you do not need to
be particularly artistic to benefit from this course.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Using a variety of creative therapies such as poetry therapy, writing and art, we will explore some of the different
ways in which you use masks in your everyday life.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

1. Identify three ways in which working with masks can increase self-awareness and self-esteem.
2. Describe at least two ways that creative therapies can help people to access their inner world.
3. Describe the key concepts of creating a masks workshop.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is open to anyone who is interested in developing their awareness, creativity and self-expression.
This course will involve discussing and releasing emotions then moulding them into a physical form so do come
willing to share your masks, thoughts and feelings.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Teaching methods will include tutor presentations; audio-visual aids; class discussion; small group work; and active
class participation. We will also explore this topic through art and self- reflective writing.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Handouts, masks and art materials will be provided by the tutor.
Do bring your own notebook and a pen or pencil which enables you to write quickly and freely.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
