What is the course about?

This course is an introductory level, designed to give you an understanding of what risk and vulnerability means for children, young people and their families. This includes the factors that increase vulnerability for some of these people and the type of support available.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

You will cover:
Definitions of vulnerability, including types of abuse and neglect
The legislation protecting children in the UK
Factors that increase children, young people and families vulnerability
The importance of relationships and security
Ways of working to support and protect children and young people at risk of harm.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Define what is meant by risk and vulnerability and how some children and young people are more at risk. You should be able to describe the needs of children and young people and identify ways of support them.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an unaccredited course at an introductory level. It could be used at CPD for people who work with children or as an introduction to the subject. There will be sensitive subjects covered.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught in a variety of ways to suit different learning styles. There will be group discussion, presentations, role play and practical work. You may also have visitors or watch videos.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no extra costs, but you may wish to bring a pen and notepad to class.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

After this course you may wish to apply for one of our level 1 or level 2 courses- including Youth work, peer mentoring, working in mental health or health and social care.
