What is the course about?

Learn how to participate safely and confidently in Zumba Gold®, dance fitness routines to help improve health and fitness.
Enjoy moving to a variety of stimulating dance rhythms such as Cumbia, Salsa, Reggeaton and Merengue for a fun workout. Rhythms selected may vary from term to term.

What will we cover?

Safety considerations for participating in exercise online
Participating at an intensity suitable for you.
The benefits of Zumba Gold® for your well-being.
The basic steps of the main dance rhythms we use this term in our Zumba Gold® sessions.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Judge if you are working at a level appropriate for you
With guidance, be able to follow a number of routines with confidence
Confidently demonstrate some basic steps of at least two of the main dance rhythms used in class.
Name the health and fitness benefits of Zumba Gold® that you have experienced.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable for beginners, active older adults and those who enjoy a lower intensity workout than in a Zumba® class.

If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed below, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake an exercise programme and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor. If you have not checked, or if it is not suitable, please do not participate in an exercise or movement class.
- Do you ever have pains in your chest?
- Have you had any operations or injuries in the last year?
- Do you often feel faint or have spells of dizziness?
- Are you receiving medication for any condition?
- Do you have high blood pressure?
- Is there anything else we should know about your health?
- Do you have a bone or joint problem, such as arthritis, osteoporosis, back or knee problems?

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Make sure your practice area is uncluttered and lends itself to this type of activity. Wear clothing suitable for exercising in. Dance trainers are recommended to enable you to move and turn easily without slipping. Have some water to hand to prevent you from becoming dehydrated and ensure the room temperature is appropriate for you to exercise in.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Continue to become more proficient in Zumba Gold® or attend another type of exercise class to help maintain and improve your fitness.

Eleanor Shearn

Eleanor has been teaching in the adult education sector since 2009. She holds a PGCE and is qualified to teach Yoga, Pilates, Postural Stability (balance for older adults) and Exercise to Music (including Zumba© and Zumba Gold©). She also trained in hypnotherapy to enhance her knowledge of how the mind and body can interact positively to aid relaxation. Eleanor's initial career was as a teacher of modern foreign languages in secondary schools where she first developed the art of breaking down information to suit the needs of her learners. Eleanor now has many years of experience in teaching movement courses for adults that cater for mixed levels of fitness and experience. Her aim with all her courses is to create a friendly learning environment where adults progress with confidence and enjoy the company of fellow students. Whether you are looking to foster a more relaxed state of mind, or to increase your fitness, balance and flexibility, Eleanor hopes to welcome you to a course soon.
