What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
Feel more confident in using listening and a range of other counselling skills Describe some boundaries and ethical issues in counselling Identify some ways in which cultural differences may affect the counselling relationship Reflect on the self and on interactions with others.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The level is post-beginner. Students are asked to come willing to: a) Draw on their own experience b) Be open to those of other students.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The emphasis is on learning through experience. There will be skills practice and large group experience. You will be asked to keep a journal as a way of reflecting on yourself and your learning throughout the course. Towards the end of the course you will be asked to produce a brief self-assessment which summarises your learning.
