Contemporary Crafts Courses in London

Contemporary Crafts at City Lit is the place to develop your making skills. Our classes explore material, technique, process and idea and will encourage you to set and solve creative problems. Basketry, Bookbinding, Calligraphy and Mosaics courses are offered throughout the year, ranging from short modules to two-year programmes of study.

Our studios are perfectly equipped for each discipline, we work hard to design our courses perfectly to take advantage of our facilities. And, we keep those facilities up to date, with regular improvements to equipment and tools.

  2. Make a laser cut piece of jewellery

    This is a short introductory course to laser cutting and its potential for various practical outcomes. We will use Adobe Illustrator on iMacs to create or customise a simple template, which you will then send to cut on our Speedy 300 laser cutter and leave with a brooch or necklace to take away.   8. Jewellery: raising repousee and fold-forming

    Learn the traditional technique of repousse (pushed metal) and fold forming. You will learn the basics of this traditional hammering method and explore the use of single and multiple folds in sheet metal to help you create your own 3-dimensional forms. Emphasis will be on experimentation of the demonstrated techniques with copper, as the organic processes create a wide variety of unique results.
