There are 10 million native speakers of the Swedish language in Sweden, Finland and Estonia. As with the Danish language, Swedish is also derived from Old Norse, the language used during the Viking era.
Some words of Swedish origin that appear in English conversation include 'moped', 'ombudsman', and 'orienteering'.
