What is the course about?

This course is designed to help you build confidence in your writing by focusing on the core elements of grammar, punctuation, and expression. Whether you're returning to learning or want to improve your writing for work or study, this course will support you in developing clear, accurate, and effective written communication. You’ll practise writing for different purposes and audiences and learn how to edit and improve your work. 

What will we cover?

You will explore a range of practical writing skills, including: 

  • Grammar foundations – sentence structure, verb tenses, subject-verb agreement 

  • Punctuation essentials – full stops, commas, apostrophes, and more 

  • Writing with clarity and style – paragraphing, tone, and structure 

  • Vocabulary and expression – using varied and appropriate language 

  • Editing and proofreading – spotting and correcting common errors 

  • Writing for real-life contexts – emails, letters, forms, and short reports

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a Level 1–2 course, suitable for learners who already have basic reading and writing skills (Entry 3 or above). You should be able to: 

  • Read and understand simple texts 

  • Write short paragraphs or messages 

  • Be willing to participate in class activities and discussions 

  • Commit to regular attendance and independent practice 

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will learn in a supportive and interactive environment, through: 

  • Group discussions and collaborative tasks 

  • Practical writing exercises and real-life scenarios 

  • Feedback from your tutor and peers 

  • Use of digital tools such as Google Classroom for resources and homework 

You’ll be expected to complete short writing tasks between sessions to reinforce your learning.
