On this course you will learn how to shoot professional-quality HD video with your digital camera, and edit a short video sequence in Adobe Premiere Pro. We'll show you how to set up your camera to the correct recording format, how to use the automatic settings, and introduce you to some manual settings to optimise your footage and accommodate different shooting conditions. We will also explore the use and of different lenses. After shooting your footage you will learn how to import your video files into Adobe Premiere Pro, edit a short video sequence and export your project as a playable QuickTime movie.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
- set up your camera and insert and format an SD card - use the automatic mode of your camera to record video - understand how to use some of the manual settings to optimise your footage - be aware of the use and application of different lenses - import files into Adobe Premiere Pro - perform a basic edit of your footage in Adobe Premiere Pro - export your edited sequence as a playable QuickTime movie.

You can develop your film making practice further in courses in Narrative, Experimental and Documentary film making or through a range of editing courses in Premiere Pro and Da Vinci Resolve. David Kline is a produced feature film screenwriter and award winning short filmmaker. He co-wrote the feature film 'Housejackers (2025) produced by Northern Ireland Screen. His career in film started with supporting actor and writer Laurence Fishburne with a screen adaptation of Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist for Warner Brothers which was optioned. David later worked as script reader for several UK film agencies including Scottish Screen and Northern Ireland Screen. David has written and produced many short films, including, 'Game Over,' a co-write with Director Adam Jenkins. The film won the Film and Media Insurance short film competition 2019 and won the horror / suspense category at the Ealing Film Festival 2020. It received official selections for the LA Shorts International Film Festival 2018 and London Short Film Festival 2019. David also wrote, produced and directed, 'On the edge,' which won Best Drama (Diamond award) at the European Independent Film Awards summer 2018 and 'Two for One,' winner of the Imaginary Mind film contest 2023.
