What is the course about?

An introduction to the Dutch language and an insight into life and customs in the Netherlands and Dutch-speaking Belgium (Flanders).

What will we cover?

The topics include exchanging personal information, describing people, and talking about everyday activities.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- give and ask for personal information

- ask how someone is and respond

- describe people

- talk about your family

- say what you do in your spare time

- say and understand numbers

- say what time it is

- demonstrate an insight into the structure, spelling and pronunciation of Dutch.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Beginners' course - no previous knowledge required.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

This course is based on the digital version of the book Contact! Nieuw and tutor’s own materials where needed.

Please note that this is a digital course book with a licence that expires after 14 months but can be renewed. The current cost of the Contact! Nieuw license is Eur49.50 which includes a coursebook and activity book.

Some students prefer hard copy books, and there is also the option to have a physical textbook + workbook + license which costs Eur84.95.

Please note that due to Brexit regulations, it is more expensive to buy a hard copy of the book straight from the Dutch publisher in the Netherlands due to shipping costs between The Netherlands and the UK.

For the purpose of this course, a license-only, digital book is sufficient.
