This is the first part of the German beginners: module 1 course to allow you to join any beginners: module 1 courses straight afterwards ( for a discounted fee). The emphasis is on the practical use of German and the development of your speaking and listening skills.

What is the course about?

To provide students with a knowledge of basic German for everyday situations.

What will we cover?

Greetings and introductions, personal information, numbers, jobs and buildings. Based on Willkommen units 1-3 and additional material supplied by the tutor.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

-use numbers and the alphabet

-greet others and introduce yourself

-give personal information (address, age, etc.)

-talk about nationalities and languages

-identify places in a town or city

-understand basic grammatical ideas i.e. genders, verb endings, personal pronouns.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable for complete beginners.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
