What is the course about?
This course is a progression from introduction to pattern cutting II where learners will be able to work on a simple project of their own or making a pattern from a beloved item that fits you well. This could be your favourite trousers or dress or top that you can no longer buy but you would like to make again. You will have the guidance of a tutor to help realise your ideas and troubleshoot any issues.
What will we cover?
We will cover techniques used to create patterns from an existing style such as tracing or using measurements in detail. Leading on from this you will create a pattern of your choice and complete a calico toile with the pattern.

Leading on from this you will create a pattern of your choice and complete a calico toile with the pattern.

By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Demonstrate different ways to pattern cut a existing or new style
• Create a pattern for any style of your own
• Work independently on your own project
• Have a working method for your pattern so it can be recreated in the future.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is a natural follow on from the Patterncutting II course. Some experience of pattern cutting and sewing is required. You should be able to follow written and verbal instructions to support hand-outs and health and safety information. You need to be able to use numbers, do simple calculations and take measurements.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Through demonstrations, discussions, workshop practice and one to one instruction and guidance. All work can be completed in class. You are encourage to participate in group discussions
We use Google Classroom to support this course as a Virtual Learning Environment. Details on how you can access this is sent to prior to the start date. When you log on, you will be able to access course material, presentations, and any other relevant information such as links to websites or videos
etc. You will be asked to complete learner progress records.
Please note it is important that you sign up and log in to your course Google classroom prior to the first session. Joining details will be sent to you via email (check your junk/spam folder).

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Access to basic materials and resources are available as part of the course. A notebook and pencil would be useful for taking notes and keeping samples etc. You may wish to bring a digital camera to record work created.

City Lit offers a selection of courses in Fashion and Contemporary crafts for beginners to advanced learners and professional practitioners.Sewing on Sundays III is a class where you could bring your completed pattern and toile to sew in fabric.

Rachel has BA degree in Fashion Design from the University of East London specialising in Womenswear, but has a keen interest children's and menswear. She currently works as a freelance pattern cutter with experience working in all areas of the industry from the high street brands like ASOS to the designer high end and Bridal. Whether its casual tees or evening gowns Rachel has done it all. Rachel enjoys sharing these skills with others and believes in more making and mending their own clothes and just finding a fun creative outlet through fashion.
