Continue learning to speak Italian on this communicative course for near beginners, with the emphasis on the practical use of Italian and the development of your speaking and listening skills. Based on Nuovo Espresso 1 (Alma Edizioni - Italian version). Suggested progression route: Italian 1 module 3.

What is the course about?

This course aims to help you achieve a basic understanding of Italian so that you can cope in everyday situations when in Italy.

What will we cover?

Based on Units 5 and 6 of Nuovo Espresso 1 (IF) (Alma Edizioni - Italian version).

Topics: hotel; directions; describing a place; holiday

Grammar: the present tense (regular and irregular verbs); prepositions; questions; adjectives; agreement of gender.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

-book a hotel room
-give and understand directions
-describe a place.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Italian stage 1 module 2 - you should have completed Italian 1 module 1 or equivalent (Units 1-4 of Nuovo Espresso 1).

You can also find the chart at the start of the languages section in our course guide. You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of number for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Be prepared to work hard but within 2 terms you will be confident in listening and speaking simple straight forward Italian.

Fun, but hard if not a natural linguist, as the number of students at the start of a course is high.
