Exploring the various aspects of magic from a complete beginner's view point, including manual dexterity, sleight of hand, theory in misdirection, psychology, building patter and scripting, performance technique using acting skills, and how to entertain people with magic.
What will we cover?
Cards, coins, ropes and balls will be taught, with some extra moves dependent on your progress. As this is a workshop-based class, questions are encouraged.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
Master the four disciplines as listed with confidence. *Perform tricks using the four outlined principles, with a view to expanding the tricks into routines. *Have the confidence to stand in front of any audience and use the tricks and principles as a tool to entertain. *Entertain with knowledge of basic stage craft techniques.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
No previous knowledge of magic is necessary, though some performance experience (i.e. acting, clowning) is an advantage. Those with experience are welcome, indeed professionals who wish to brush up on skills not used for a while sometimes join the class. In order to get the most from the course you will be able to: • Listen and respond to instructions and feedback. • Take part in class discussions. • Read a script and/or related text. • Work within groups and pairs safely.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The various aspects of magic will be demonstrated, followed by pair work, group work and individual attention. Members of the class will be asked to demonstrate an effect followed by group discussion. HEALTH CHECK You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

Comfortable clothing. All other items and equipment will be provided.
