What is the course about?

The course aims to enable students to communicate in Spanish in everyday situations.

What will we cover?

Greetings, asking about meaning and pronunciation of words, spelling, asking for repetition, personal information, likes and dislikes, identifying people and family, description of people.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- introduce yourself, say hello and goodbye
- ask about meaning of words
- spell words
- give and ask for basic information about yourself and others
- Talk about likes and dislikes
- talk about your family
- describe and identify people.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No previous knowledge required, suitable for complete beginners. If you have some basic knowledge of Spanish, contact the Language department as there may be a more suitable course for you.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Please note that if you transfer to another level, you will use a different textbook, as 'Nos Vemos Hoy' is a new book that we are phasing in. Therefore, PLEASE DO NOT BUY IT UNTIL AFTER THE FIRST LESSON. The tutor will give you more details on the first day.

Adriana holds a qualification to teach adults. She has taught Spanish to adults and teenagers for more than 8 years at different levels ranging from beginners to proficiency, including GCSE exams, in groups and one-to-one lessons -face to face and online-. She has worked as a Spanish tutor in educational institutions such as City Lit; Bishopsgate Institute; Morley College, UK Government departments as DEFRA, and for agencies tutoring private students for well-known organizations namely BBC, Arthur & Gallagher, AON, AHJ, among others. She got a degree in Anthropology from the Central University of Venezuela. A career in which she developed her knowledge and passion about Languages and Culture. Additionally, back in her country she worked in cultural research in the publishing area, events organization and organizational structure.
