What is the course about?
Using different techniques, both traditional and experimental you can scale up your imagery and explore different textural surfaces and printing methods. You will be guided the main processes and then be able to combine them in an experimental methods, learning hand printing and the use of professional inks and papers and cutting tools.
What will we cover?
- Woodcut – tools/inks/papers/hand-press
- Lino - cutting/etching and jigsaw multi colour blocks
- Traditional and contemporary experimental approaches to printmaking and working with the larger image.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Use larger scale printmaking within your practice
- Use the print studio independently and safely
- Have a working knowledge of these three printing techniques.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is suitable for all levels – more experienced students can receive help and guidance with personal projects.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be supported by one-to-one guidance and informal reviews throughout the week.
Examples of techniques and materials will be shown, demonstrated and discussed.
Handouts, texts and contextual images will be used.
A series of short practical activities will be set based around the techniques demonstrated.
There may be some short individual preparatory tasks set during the week – eg. Cutting stencils to
maximise session time.

The course fee covers basic drawing and printmaking materials.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
This course can help build your portfolio to lead on to various visual arts courses including further printmaking, foundation diploma or CLFA and similar.
