What is the course about?

You will learn how to set up your own vlog in YouTube, how to customise and implement its functionality utilising YouTube full capabilities as a website, social network, video editor and publisher. You will create your own channel either as an individual or as a brand/project/business. You will populate your channel with sections featuring different video content from your own and other channels, sharing, and linking with other vloggers and networks. You will learn basic video editing skills in YouTube Creator Studio, complemented with the open source soft-ware Shotcut to add effects, styles, and music to your videos. You will learn how to use recently added new features that focus on interactivity and promotion in YouTube Creator Studio.
By the end of the course, you will have a running and working vlog that you’ll be able to manage and update yourself subsequently to the course. Video material will be provided although you can bring your own. This is a hands-on course that focuses on the technical and functional side of creating, maintaining, and managing a vlog.

What will we cover?

• Setting up a vlog in your own YouTube channel
• Editing video using YouTube and Shotcut: trims, cuts, effects, titles, styles, music
• New promotion features: cards, end screens
• Populating your vlog with content
• Connecting your vlog to other channels and social networks.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• Have the skills necessary to build, maintain and update your own YouTube channel vlog
• Edit, publish and manage you videos in YouTube Creator Studio
• Further edit and enhance you videos in Shotcut
• Add online content to your vlog
• Interact with the world through your vlog and other social networks.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have a Gmail account in full working order with known username and password you can access and are ready to use at the start of the course. No YouTube or video editing pre-requisites necessary. You should be able to use a Windows computer comfortably, the internet and email. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, handouts and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in-group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught with demonstrations and explanations from the tutor. Then you will put what you learnt into practice. This is a very hands-on course where you will make your own vlog as you learn. Although it will be Individual work primarily, some group work may also take place.
