Her Royal Highness will present City Lit’s Centenary Awards

2019 is a landmark year for City Lit, as we celebrate 100 years of delivering outstanding education to our community of learners.

As part of our centenary year we will hold a very special awards event at City Lit on Tuesday 2nd April, celebrating amazing achievements by students and inspirational tutors over many years.

These special Centenary Awards will be presented by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, who will receive the City Lit Centenary Fellowship at the ceremony for her tremendous support and commitment to adult education.

The visit of HRH The Princess Royal, where she will meet students and their families, is a huge honour for City Lit. Her Royal Highness, who is a strong advocate of lifelong learning, said:

'I have had the pleasure of visiting City Lit a number of times to meet its inspirational learners and tutors, as well as welcoming City Lit students to Buckingham Palace as National Learning Ambassadors. It is particular encouraging to see how people of all ages and backgrounds come together at City Lit to challenge themselves and transform their lives.

If education can be defined as ‘training for life’, then lifelong learning and its ability to unlock potential throughout people’s lives should be accepted as part of life. I am honoured to receive the City Lit Centenary Fellowship.'

Since City Lit opened in 1919, we have welcomed tens of thousands of Londoners every year, with probably well over a million people having benefitted from our unique offering over the last century. Londoners from all walks of life come together at City Lit to try something new, learn a new skill, follow a passion, and find a community and their cultural expression.
