Introducing the City Lit Wellbeing Centre

We are proud to announce the opening of our new Wellbeing Centre on Kean Street — a stone’s throw from our main building on Keeley Street Covent Garden. The new venue will offer specialist and professional training in massage therapies, sports massage, counselling, aromatherapy, Reiki healing, facial skincare and more.

About the City Lit Wellbeing Centre

The centre is purpose-built for delivering our Health and Wellbeing courses. Offering you bespoke classrooms, well-equipped studios and high quality spaces for professional training in counselling, massage, complementary therapies and more. We've gone the extra mile to equip the centre with much of the equipment you will need to train with us.

It features four brand new learning spaces, including:
  • Studios
    • two light and spacious studios massage and complementary therapies training courses
  • Classrooms
    • two new classrooms for our introductory, certificate and diploma courses in Counselling.
  • Breakout rooms/counselling pods
    • 8 small break-out rooms/private counselling pods for trainees to practice their skills.
The centre is next door to our Photography Studio which also provides a contemporary space for delivering our courses and training programmes.
 
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, we are keen to ensure safe and healthy practice in training and learning. We've embedded training in health and safety as part of our courses.

Increased demand

The recent pandemic has made us all more aware of our health and wellbeing. For many, it provided time to reflect on our lives, careers and work-life balance. At the same time, the effects of the pandemic increased demand for wellbeing services. Now more than ever, we recognise the importance talking therapies, massage and complimentary therapies to support us in maintaining our physical and mental health. 

Amazing career prospects

Many of our courses provide you will the professional skills and knowledge to change career and enter professions within the Health and Wellbeing Industries. Our students have gone on to work as self-employed counsellors and therapists, set up clinics or practices, or find employment with high profile organisations and charities including Urban Massage, the NHS, and the Stress Project. Our courses enable you to progress from beginner, to professional levels in nationally recognised qualifications accredited by awarding bodies including ITEC, ABC, and VTCT. We also provide a range of courses for continuing professional development, including courses about working in the industry and business planning for freelance or self-employment. 

Voluntary placements and experience to kickstart your career

On our counselling and massage courses our trainees regularly gain experience through placement work or through voluntary opportunities for charities and other organisations.  In counselling, trainees have worked with counselling practices across London, and our trainee massage therapists have provided treatments for charities and events such as the London Marathon & The Ronald McDonald House.

Our ethos

City Lit’s counselling department delivers quality personal and professional training. Our aim is to meet the cognitive, psychological, emotional and behavioural intersectional wellbeing needs of the community that we serve.

We offer opportunities for students to gain a qualification leading to a career in counselling. Our course offer has a clear, coherent and quick training progression route.

Across all our wellbeing programmes we provide a welcome and inclusive environment to learn. Everybody can take part as a member of the wellbeing learning community at City Lit, and pursue their qualification. We are a multicultural and multiracial beacon that is purposeful in adopting and practicing an anti-racist agenda. As leaders in providing professional counselling training, we embed race awareness at every stage of the curriculum. This ensures that we are actively developing cultural knowledge and sensitivity in our students and staff.

CLFA (City Lit Fine Arts) is a part of the Advanced Art Practice area in the School of Visual Arts at the City Lit. There are numerous short courses in Advanced Art Practice that offer additional options in contemporary art theory and practice. These can be studied alongside CLFA to support or extend your particular areas of interest.
