Meet the team: New tutors in History, Politics, Sciences 2022

Introducing our new history, politics, philosophy, religious studies and games tutors and courses.

Each academic year we have brilliant new people join our group of tutors, bringing new experiences, interests and perspectives.

This time, we are happy to welcome Angelos, Barbara, Christian, David, Edgar, Ethan, Louis, Louise and Scott. They offer a broad range of courses spanning history, politics, philosophy, religious studies and games. Read on below for a brief introduction of our new people and their courses.

Angelos Sepos

Subject: Politics

After completing his Ph.D in Politics & International Studies from Cambridge University (2003), Angelos held academic positions in the European University Institute (Florence), European University Cyprus, University of Cyprus, Newcastle University, the University of Manchester, Al Akhawayn University (Morocco), the University of Bath, and the University of Exeter.

In addition to teaching in the broader areas of Politics and International Relations, Angelos authored the books The Europeanization of Cyprus: Polity, Policies and Politics with Palgrave Macmillan (2008) and (with Prof. Kenneth Dyson) Which Europe? The Politics of Differentiated Integration with Palgrave Macmillan (2010) in addition to academic articles in the journals European Foreign Affairs Review, Journal of European Integration, Journal of Political Power, Regional & Federal Studies, Journal of Southern Europe & the Balkans, as well as book chapters in edited volumes. Angelos is excited to expand his work to adult learning also.

Barbara Schenkel

Subject: Politics

Barbara is currently finishing her PhD in Gender Studies at SOAS, University of London. Her research looks at international development projects targeting Jordanian women’s political empowerment for which she has undertaken qualitative and ethnographic data collection in Jordan, exploring concepts such as citizenship and ‘the political’. She is also interested in interdisciplinary conversations about feminist and decolonial approaches to knowledge production. She has taught global politics, gender and social inequality, and politics of the Middle East.

Christian Schnee

Subject: Politics

Christian Schnee studied history, politics as well as public relations at Universities in England, Scotland and the USA. He holds a teaching degree and completed a doctorate in political communication at the University of Hull. After graduating Christian embarked on a career in German politics - serving as spokesperson to the governing party, special advisor to state government and departmental head for a leading European think tank. Subsequently, he returned to the UK as senior lecturer with the University of Worcester.

After a stint of seven years in the West Midlands Christian relocated to London - giving in to the temptation of observing Westminster politics at close range. As senior lecturer at Greenwich University he has developed and led classes in public affairs and public relations. Meanwhile he broadened his teaching portfolio and now teaches British and European politics to American University students studying in London. Over the years Christian has written a number of articles and chapters and produced more than half a dozen books with leading academic publishers. The topics of his publications pivot on European politics and political history.

David Rowson

Subject: Games

David Rowson has taught English, history and politics for adults and sixth form students for several decades, playing chess alongside. David has won in team competitions in Catalonia, Spain, England and Britain and is currently the captain of the first team of Kingston Chess Club where he runs online training sessions.

Dylan Wang

Subject: History

Dylan Wang has joined us to teach Chinese history. He is currently pursuing a PhD in East Asian studies at SOAS, University of London. He holds two BA degrees from Tsinghua University (Beijing) in Chinese literature and English literature respectively and an MA degree (high distinction) in Chinese studies from SOAS.

Dylan also studied at the College of William and Mary, the University of Oxford, and Harvard University. He has published articles on various aspects of East Asian studies and gender studies as well as a number of award-winning translations of literary and scholarly works.

Edgar Ter Danielyan

Subject: Philosophy

Edgar Ter Danielyan holds a First in Philosophy and Theology from Heythrop College, University of London, a research MA in Philosophy from the University of Buckingham (where he studied under the late Prof. Sir Roger Scruton), a Chartered Fellowship in Computing, and the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies with Distinction from the Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales.

He is a member of the Royal Institute of Philosophy, the British Society for the Philosophy of Religion, and the British Philosophical Association. His work in the philosophy of religion has been published in the Analysis and Heythrop journals, and he has delivered papers on topics in the philosophy of religion at the universities of Oxford and Birmingham.

Ethan Doyle White

Subject: Religious Studies

Ethan Doyle White is a scholar of religion with a background in history and archaeology and a doctorate in Medieval History and Archaeology from UCL. One of his main research interests is in twentieth and twenty-first century Paganism, occultism, and related new religions, but he has published widely across both the field of religious studies and archaeology. He's excited to teach adults.

Louis Tsang

Subject: Philosophy

Louis Tsang studied philosophy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and got his PhD degree at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2011. His research interests are ethics, political philosophy and Chinese Philosophy. He has taught General Education courses of CUHK for more than ten years and he is also active in presenting philosophy courses to adults for different institutions since 2012.

What Loius enjoys most in teaching is finding his students engaging in philosophizing. He is also a book lover and a versatile writer. His publications include Global Justice and Universal Values (2018, co-author) and Participatory Parity and Global Justice (2014).

Louise Green

Subject: History

Louise joins us to teach Russian, Chinese and British imperial history. Louise studied History and Ancient History at the University of Reading and specialised in Russian History for her MA at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies. She completed her PGCE at the University of Roehampton and has taught A' Level History for eighteen years. Louise has a keen interest in world history, particularly in social history, archival sources and heritage. She believes learning about history should be interesting, accessible and thought-provoking, and use primary source material and discussions.
