What is the course about?

The course aims to refresh your elementary Greek through the translation of short passages and grammar exercises, as well as to improve your pronunciation.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

We will translate short passages and revise the Greek declensions of nouns and adjectives as well as the present, imperfect and aorist tenses. Please contact the tutor through the Classics department 7-10 days before the start of the course in order to obtain the material necessary for the first class. Copies will also be made available in class on the day of the first lesson.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- translate short passages;
- decline nouns/adjectives/pronouns and conjugate verbs;
- read Ancient Greek with more confidence,.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable if you have studied Greek for at least one year at City Lit or have an equivalent level of the language.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Whole class work. Translating short passages in Greek and doing grammar exercises, tutor posing questions and answering questions raised by the students. Homework: about 2 hours per week.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No. Handouts with the Greek passages/exercises will be provided during each lesson.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Classical Greek 2 from September.
