What is the course about?
This course aims to introduce you to ways of marketing using social media to promote and support online businesses. You’ll gain knowledge of project management concepts and tools to manage social media for e-Commerce projects and introduce you to Content Management System Software (CMS) to create and manage digital content. You will also learn about the digital marketing mix, how social media fits into it and how to develop, implement and analyse social media and content marketing campaigns.
On successful completion of this course participants will be awarded a Level 3 Certificate in Social Media for e-Commerce from Gateway Qualifications.
This course will be delivered online and in person, and will involve tutor presentation and class discussion. Student preparation and homework outside class times is strongly encouraged. To fully participate in this online class you will need:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably google chrome). Your device will need a microphone, and preferably a camera.

Digital Marketing
• Its role in helping an organisation achieve its goals.
• The media, channels and information that make up the digital marketing mix.
• How to measure the outcomes of digital marketing activities
Using Content Management Systems (CMS)
• Understand how CMSs are used in business.
• Planning and build a CMS website to meet business requirements, including accessibility.
• Measure and improve website performance.
Content Marketing
• Understand the role of content marketing, and the technology used to implement it.
• Implementation and analysis of a content marketing campaign.
Social Media Marketing
• Understand the role of social media within digital marketing.
• The challenges, legal and ethical issues surrounding social media use and their impact on social media marketing.
• Implementation and analysis of a social media marketing campaign.
Use project management methodologies and tools to plan, build, and review a social media for e-Commerce project.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Demonstrate an ability to plan, create, implement, and assess a social media marketing campaign for e-Commerce.
You will be able to understand and explain the role social media marketing plays in the achievement of e-Commerce goals.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is an accredited Level 3 course. You should be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor and peers in English. As this is a level 3 portfolio based accredited course you will be required to complete tasks in your portfolio so your written English should be at least at level 2 GCSE or equivalent.
You should be a confident computer user with good file management skills. Useful to know but not essential: how to use social media websites such as Facebook and Instagram.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
This course has a blended format and will involve tutor presentation and class discussion. Student preparation and homework outside class times is strongly encouraged.
This course will be delivered online on two evenings weeks for 3 hour per session. However, you will be required to come in for 10 Saturdays from 10:00am till 5:00pm during the duration of this course. These dates are the 15th November, 06th December,17th January, 7th February, 28th February, 21st March, 25th April, 23rd May, 13th June and 11th July.

There will be self-directed learning as well as work assigned outside of class to create a stronger project. The more you work outside of class the more you’ll be able to push your portfolio piece and learn more. You will be expected to attend at least 90% of the sessions and assign 5 additional hours a week on top of the teaching contact time.

You need access to a laptop/computer that can run the Chrome browser efficiently, a good internet connection and a notebook.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
