What is the course about?

CORE is a means to opening up physically, helping you to become aware of your energy flow and how to come fully into this energy. Based in modern psychology, science and spiritual principles, CORE has been designed to create whole-body-mind awareness and is a fun way to explore how to expand your range as an artist. You can expect a creative, immersive experience that will deepen inner growth, creating consciousness about yourself, and the way you relate to others.

What will we cover?

Learn how unconscious holding patterns in your body affect self-expression, presence and range as a performer.
Become aware of your patterns and learn tools and techniques for increasing your capacity to feel and fully and express yourself in your craft.
Utilise movement, emotional expression, voice dialogue, breath and other techniques to release holding patterns that affect your self-expression.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Sense and demonstrate an increased awareness of energy flow and presence
Demonstrate an understanding of physical and emotional blocks
Display an increased capacity to express emotions
Be able to warm-up physically and emotionally for a free and impulsive performance.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Beginners level. This course is suitable for everyone, and performers will particularly benefit.

To get the most from this course please bring an open-mind and a willingness to move your body and explore your emotions. You should also be able to:
• Speak English fluently.
• Communicate in group situations.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take course notes for your own use.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This course will be highly experiential. There will not be work outside of class.

HEALTH CHECK
You will be asked to participate in rigorous activity. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please wear clothes that are comfortable enough to move freely in (legging/vest and grip-socks, and extra layers in case you get cold). Exercise mats will be provided but please bring a small foam pillow or folded hand towel to support your head and neck. Please bring to every session: water, a notebook and pen, and a folder to file hand-outs and homework.

Kate Montague

Kate is a richly experienced voice tutor, and somatic psychotherapist. She is an established visiting voice tutor at the City Lit. Kate has a Degree in Acting and a Masters in Voice Studies from London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She is an experienced actress with credits in theatre, television and film. Kate has honed her bespoke coaching practice in the corporate sector both in London and abroad. She regularly trains staff at all levels, and delivers executive level coaching for middle management and CEOs. She specialises in Personal Impact, Public Speaking, Presentation Skills, Voice and Speech coaching, and Accent Softening, tailoring courses to meet client needs while supporting the development of the individual’s unique gifts, strengths and communication style. As a psychotherapist Kate has the ability to work effectively with professionals who are challenged by constant change, performance stress, and the need for resilience and flexibility within their work place dynamics. Kate’s approach is highly intuitive while grounded in technique, passion and experience.
