What is the course about?

The broad aim of this course is to develop and build on your Photoshop skills gained through previous practical experience and / or an introductory course. Each week, a specialist topic is looked at in detail and you are then encouraged to use this, developing your own work with professional advice during the class.

Participants who will attend the full course will receive a City Lit certificate of attendance electronically for their CV or CPD records. The certificate will show your name, course title and dates of the course you have attended.

What will we cover?

This course aims to develop and expand your understanding and use of the range of tools and techniques available with Photoshop.Every week we will work through a tutorial prepared by the tutor to examine some of the more technical aspects of the package. With such a variety of creative approaches offered by Photoshop, some attention will also be given to developing strategies for working on specific types or project and problem solving.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- To develop and expand a basic understanding of digital imaging in respect to tonal and colour adjustments
- Enable a more creative approach to working in the digital environment
- Utilise masks (quick mask, adjustment layers, layer masks) to allow higher degrees of adjustment and control
- Use filters and masks to adjust and control aspects of the image
- Use the grid and guides for accuracy
- Create and apply custom patterns and brushes.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is best suited for those with some basic knowledge and hands-on experience of Adobe Photoshop and digital imaging. After completing the course you will have reached the proficiency necessary to acquire, manipulate and output images to precise specifications and to be able to work comfortably with the important issues of colour, resolution and file size.
Students should be confident and competent computer users on a Mac or Windows PC and be proficient with a mouse and keyboard in either a creative software, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or equivalent and should be able to download, upload, save, open and retrieve files. Some awareness of design for print or any other art/design practice would be useful.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
