What is the course about?
- The work of internationally renowned narrative animators working with animated still life compositions.
- Planning and setting up still life compositions for animation
- Narrative stop motion animation techniques and processes
- Some basic editing in premiere Pro
- Exporting sequences using the appropriate codecs for a range of delivery options including social media.
What will we cover?
- Identify the techniques used by internationally renowned artists
- Use a range of objects and techniques to create an animation sequence
- Use a DSLR camera with Dragon Frame to capture stop motion
- Import and add audio to your clips using Adobe Premiere Pro CC
- Export your sequence using an appropriate format and codec.

This course is suitable for beginners but has much to offer animators or film makers who wish to enhance and develop their practice. You are expected to have basic experience in using a computer including navigating files, opening applications and opening and saving files.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for beginners but has also much to offer those wishing to develop their animation or fine art practice and enhance their showreel.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, tutorials, group and individual assistance and hand-outs.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
The latest professional equipment and software are available for your use throughout the course in our fully equipped studios. It would be useful to bring a memory stick or portable hard drive – please note PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
You can develop your practice further by a range of short courses in Digital and Traditional Animation including Stop Motion courses and digital animation courses using After Effects, Animate, photoshop and Blender. We offer a long course in Animation VK413 City Lit Animation for those who wish to commit to their animation practice. You can also develop your moving image work through City Lit courses in Experimental, Documentary and Narrative Film Making and Editing.
Stephanie Griffiths is a BAFTA award winning animator with over 20 years professional experience working on numerous well known children’s animated programmes. As well as a string of credits in broadcast model and drawn animation, Stephanie has produced experimental films creatively combining animation and live action. She is also an accomplished puppet maker and puppeteer. Teaching and mentoring has been an integral part of Stephanie’s practice and she has facilitated and mentored a wide range of innovative animation and art projects working with different communities and international artists.
