Refine, stregthen and challenge your pointe work. With expert guidance you will gain greater confindence and build on your technique as we explore more complex combinations at the barre and in the centre. Working safely and with correct alignment are at the core of what we do so to get the most out of this course you should have attended regular ballet classes and pointe work for at least 12-18 months.

What is the course about?

This is a follow on course from our beginner's pointe course. We will continue to work at strengthening the ankles, feet and core, develop the basics and aim to introduce more challenging steps at the barre and in the centre.

What will we cover?

How to strengthen and point your feet, pointe work at the barre and centre (tendu, dégagés wearing pointe shoes, relevés on one and on two legs, relevé passes, echappés, pas de bourrées, courus, temps lies, balances).

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Rise and dance onto the pointe with correct alignment.
Demonstrate increased strength in the feet and ankles.
Recognise how the feet are used for pointe work and how to move safely in longer combinations.
Perform on two feet as well as one foot.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for people with a good, to very good knowledge of classical ballet and with a minimum of 12 months on pointe.
This course is not suitable for complete beginners. Beginner's should refer to Ballet pointe: beginners.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is a practical dance class. Class will be taught mainly at the ballet barre with exercises given to practice outside of class.

HEALTH CHECK
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you
could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will need pointe shoes for this class. If you have purchased shoes and are unsure about the fit, do not sew on the ribbons and elastics so we can check and you can exchange your shoes if necessary. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the department.

Dilek Taptik

Born in Germany, Dilek started ballet in the Russian Vaganova method. Professional training began in Turkey, Mersin Conservatoire for Dance & Ballet Academy Cologne, Germany, gaining National Dancers Diploma and Teaching qualifications by RAD, RTS, STC, TC, TD. Teachers included Lynn Wallis OBE (Artistic Director RAD), Gisela Peters, D. Wayne, Alex Morris, Valerie Aitken, Libby Farr. She also trained in NY. Dilek performed 'Giselle' (Demi-Soloist) in Turkey State Opera, 'Les Sylphides', 'Pas de Quatre', 'Nutcracker' & Swan Lake Corps in German Opera houses. 2003 she was awarded a scholarship for London Contemporary Dance School 'The Place', CertHE, working with Merce Cunningham, Trisha Brown Company, Siobhan Davies Dance, Richard Alston Dance Company, DV8 and Kerry Nicholls (Ex- rehearsal director Wayne Mc Gregor Dance). She toured in Germany, Dance-film (Roundhouse, London & Cannes Film Festival) & Movie credit along Vanessa Paradise. Dilek was Lead Ballet Tutor at the Arts Educational Schools London & founded www.dtdance.com She is a regular Ballet Tutor at CityLit & at the RAD HQ teaching ADV level & Guest Teacher for IDW London & Barcelona.
