What is the course about?
This course builds on last term's Chess for Improvers and offers basic tools for the opening, middlegame and endgame.
What will we cover?
We will look at piece development, central control and king safety relating to the opening. We will look at attacking ideas relating to the middlegame. We will also cover useful checkmating patterns in the endgame.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
A more profound understanding of ideas in the opening, middlegame and endgame.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Basic knowledge of the rules will suffice. This is a gentle course not really suited for seasoned players.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
There will be plenty of opportunity to play. We will also have teaching segments and discussion. There will also be a chance to look at model games and become more proficient with chess notation. No work required outside class.
