What is the course about?

You will consolidate your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary and will work towards achieving greater fluency.
You will learn a series of situational dialogues and travel articles covering different Chinese cities, tourist attractions, geography, culture, foods, history, etc.

The tutor might adjust the teaching content according to students’ progress.

What will we cover?


- Weekly pronunciation practice to help students’ pronunciation to be more accurate and natural;
- Related speaking, reading, listening, and writing practices and controlled writing and presentation tasks;
- Consolidation of more complicated grammatical points ( most grammar points are at at HSK level 3 and level 4);
- Development of vocabulary (most vocabulary is at HSK 3 and 4 levels);
- Development of competence in reading Chinese characters;
- Extra knowledge on Chinese cultures and traditions;
- Reviews and exercises,
-Learn about 80 new words intensively, but the tutor will use a lot more daily life Chinese words and phrases extensively during teaching.

The tutor will use some teaching materials in Discover China Student’s book 2 (selected units).

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Improve your pronunciation and listening comprehension
Improve your speaking, writing and reading skills
Improve your vocabulary.

Students will complete a 3-minute presentation in Chinese using a variety of sentence structures and grammar points with the help of the tutor (This task is optional, and students can choose not to do it).

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a course at an intermediate level. It is an ideal follow-up for students who have previously completed level 3 upper course at the City Lit ( learning Chinese continuously for at least 5 years ) or who have acquired an equivalent knowledge of the language at an intermediate level.
It is essential that you can read Chinese characters and that you have knowledge of grammar terminology.

you will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities. It is also essential that you have knowledge of more complex grammar terminology.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:
active student participation
emphasis on speaking and listening skills
pair and group work
role plays
use of realia, pictures and authentic material
use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate.
