What is the course about?

You will look at aspects of Dickens' life and work and an insight into what would have been found in nineteenth century London.

What will we cover?

In the morning you will look at aspects of Dickens' life and work and in the afternoon you will walk through the City of London where you will explore some of the areas mentioned in Dickens' work.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Summarise Dickens life and work
- Define the relationship between Dickens work and 19th century London life
- Identify key London landmarks mentioned in Dickens work.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable for anyone who is interested in London history and is able to undertake a moderately paced walking tour.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Lecture illustrated with slides in the morning followed by the walk in the afternoon. There will be a discussion session.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

None. A reading list and handouts will be provided.
