This course is a mix of practical printing and taught sessions, giving you a comprehensive grounding in producing portfolio and exhibition inkjet and giclee prints up to A2 size, to a highly professional standard. You will learn about colour correction, basic colour management, different premium paper types and inks, and how to get the most out of Photoshop and printer software. Over two days you will be given fantastic opportunities to experiment with printing your work on our top-of-the-range Epson Photo inkjet printers.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
An understanding of Photoshop and the basics of digital printing is an advantage, but not essential. If you use Adobe Lightroom, many of the skills are transferable.
You will need to be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and be prepared to take part in group discussion. You should be happy using numbers and able to do simple measurements and calculations.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
A mix of practical printing and taught sessions in a dedicated studio environment using Apple Mac computers, Epson printers and high-quality inkjet paper.
The course also uses Google Classroom (an online teaching resource) for you download class resources.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Please bring a selection of your own images to your first class – either on memory stick or portable hard drive. These should be saved as unresized, high quality JPEGS or TIFFS.
Please note PC-formatted media can be read by Apple Macs but not written to.
We provide a limited amount of premium Epson and Hahnemuhle paper. If you want to print on other papers you will need to purchase these yourself and you get a City Lit discount at London Graphic Centre, who carry a good range of papers.
When you enrol on a course at the City Lit, you are entitled to student discount on Adobe Creative Cloud.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Michael Harding was born in Canada, where he studied cinema and photography at Concordia University, Montréal, before moving to the UK. Since then, he has created striking images of architecture, art, people and landscapes for international blue-chip clients for their use in editorial, advertising and corporate applications. Michael’s work has won many industry awards, notably being selected in the Eleventh Association of Photographers Awards and further receiving a Merit Award in the Seventeenth Association of Photographers Awards. His work was selected for a Highly Commended Award in the Deutsche Bauzeitung “Visions in Architecture” European Architectural Photography prize. His work has been exhibited in both the United Kingdom and Canada. Michael has been Chairman, as well as President, of the Association of Photographers (AOP). The AOP is Europe’s most established organisation for professional photographers, working to ensure greater recognition for all professional photographers, as well as working to positively influence legislators in the UK and Europe for the benefit of all photographers.
