What is the course about?

This course is designed for learners with additional learning needs who want to build their confidence in using English for everyday life and work. It offers a safe and supportive space to explore English through discussion, collaboration, and practical activities. The course is ideal for those who are developing their basic communication skills and want to feel more confident expressing themselves in familiar situations. 

 

What will we cover?

  • Speaking and listening in everyday conversations 

  • Asking and answering questions clearly 

  • Understanding and using common vocabulary 

  • Reading short texts such as signs, notices, and simple instructions 

  • Writing short messages, notes, and simple forms 

  • Working with others through group tasks and shared activities

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an entry-level course suitable for learners who are beginning to develop their English communication skills. No formal qualifications or prior experience are needed—just a willingness to participate and learn in a friendly environment. An Initial assessment and interview will take place to ensure the course is suitable for you.  

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment, working both independently and collaboratively. Teaching will include: 

  • Group activities and discussions 

  • Practical reading and writing exercises 

  • Use of Google Classroom for materials and communication 

  • Optional homework tasks to reinforce learning 

Classes are held onsite at the college, and Google Classroom will be used for accessing course materials and independent learning. 

 

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no additional costs. You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a folder to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and worksheets.
