What is the course about?

This course is designed to help learners improve their basic reading and writing skills in English, with a focus on building confidence and practical ability. It supports learners who may have had limited formal education or who are returning to learning after a break.

    • Constructing simple and compound sentences Using punctuation correctly (capital letters, full stops, question marks)

  • Planning and drafting short texts (emails, notes, letters, forms) 

  • Writing for different purposes (informal/formal) 

  • Vocabulary and Grammar 

  • Expanding vocabulary for everyday and work-related contexts 

  • Using correct verb tenses and sentence structure 

  • Understanding word families and prefixes/suffixes

By the end of the course, you will: 

  • Be able to read and understand short texts with increased confidence

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is primarily at Entry Level 3, You do not need formal qualifications to join, but you should be able to: 

  • Understand and respond to basic spoken English 

  • Read simple sentences and attempt short writing tasks 

  • Be willing to participate in group activities and discussions 

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment work both independently and collaboratively with others. Google Classroom is an essential part of your learning, course learning material, communication and independent learning is accessed via this platform. Your course will be taught onsite at the college    

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no additional costs. You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a folder to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and worksheets.
