- Understand the difference between experimental film making and narrative film making practice.
- Conceptualise ideas
- Record video footage
- Perform some basic edits in Premiere Pro CC
- Export your sequence as a movie.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is designed as an introductory course but is suitable for any level. No previous film making experience is required but you should have basic computer experience including, using a keyboard and mouse, opening applications, saving and retrieving files.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, tutorials, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in its film making studios.
Hand-outs and other material will be shared on Google Classroom. Full details of this will be provided on enrolment. The more time you can spend practicing editing outside of the session the more you will benefit from what is taught in class.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
The latest professional equipment and software are available for your use throughout the course. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.)
As we use Google Classroom E-learning platform to share all tasks, notes, resources and demo videos, you will need to login into our Google classroom before each sessions starts.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
You can develop your skills further in our Experimental stage 2 course and in our Editing and After Effects courses.
City Lit offer a range of courses in DSLR Film making, Narrative, Experimental and Documentary film making as well as courses in Experimental and Narrative stop motion and digital animation courses to enhance your film making practice.
